Sprint is the first U.S. carrier to deliver the latest Android 5.0.1 Lollipop OS update to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The software version N910PVPU1BOB7 is currently being seeded to the handsets.

Tech website Phone Arena got hold of a screenshot of a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 showing the model number SM-N910P running with the 5.0.1 version of Android. This means that the handset shown already has a Material Design user interface, Project Volta for prolonged battery life, new "Recent Apps" menu, the 64-bit ART compiler for apps, Smart Lock for security, and improved notification and performance.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 users should receive a notification for the Over-The-Air update, but users can also manually check their smartphones if it's already available for them to download. If no notification is received, then they only need to wait as the upgrade is usually rolled out in phases.

To update the handset, subscribers should download the new firmware via Wi-Fi because of the big file size. Also, they need to ensure that the phone has at least 50 percent battery charge.

Other carriers will release the update following the move of Sprint. T-Mobile's Update page confirmed that the phablet will receive the OS upgrade, although it left out the specific release date. Currently, the Note 4 is still in the first step of the rollout, wherein the manufacturer is still working on the OS after the carrier and OEM agreed to support the smartphone.

The new Android operating system was first spotted in in Poland and made its way in some parts of Europe and Asia.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 was released in September last year and it has the following specs and features:

  • 5.7-inch Super AMOLED screen display with quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution
  • 2.7 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor
  • 3 GB of RAM
  • 32 GB of internal storage with a microSD slot of up to 128 GB for additional storage
