'Star Wars: Battlefront' DLC news: No 'The Force Awakens' expansion planned yet

DICE

With the success of the latest film from the popular franchise, some gamers think that they might come across "The Force Awakens" DLC in "Star Wars: Battlefront." However, it seems that their wish won't come true as reports mention that publisher Electronic Arts and developer DICE have no intention of coming out with an expansion detailing a "Star Wars: Episode VII" theme.

According to Movie Pilot, the information came from Electronic Arts itself. Apparently, some fans have asked the publisher if there are is any crossover in the future, to which EA replied via a tweet, "Our team is focusing on the original trilogy for this release of 'Star Wars: Battlefront.'"

However, while some fans may interpret the statement as a direct shooting down of the idea from the publisher, Movie Pilot said that Electronic Arts might only be referring to the current game model. It is already confirmed that DICE and EA are already working on the second game installment, and the industry observer said that characters, events and missions from the new film might make it to the upcoming "Star Wars: Battlefront" sequel.

The Irish Examiner also seems to be thinking along the same lines, saying that with the publisher and developer currently hard at work on "Battlefield 5," "Star Wars: Battlefront" fans might need to wait until 2017 before the sequel releases. The timeline is also coincidental with the targeted release date of the next film installment, "Star Wars: Episode VIII."

The latest expansion content for "Star Wars: Battlefront" fans –- and the very first expansion -– is the "Battle of Jaku" DLC, which rolled out first for season pass and pre-order players during the early week of December before finally releasing to all players just before the holidays.
