'Star Wars Battlefront II' news: Game not selling well as predicted

Just as expected, the sales of the Electronic Arts video game "Star Wars Battlefront II" has been doing a lot worse than developers have expected. This is despite the release of the movies since "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." The lack of early sales is due to early reports of the game's microtransactions, which caused much annoyance to potential consumers, as well as the relatively short single player campaign mode.

In a report by Forbes, after the game's release on Nov. 17, the game experienced very low sales in the U.K., with "Star Wars Battlefront II" selling below 50 percent compared to the first instalment of the game. This is apparently an unprecedentedly low point financially, and it has caused the developers to remove paid loot crate system in the game, albeit temporarily, in order to urge consumers to get their hands on the title.

Initial projections in terms of sales were estimated to be at around 14 million copies sold within the five months after the game's release, according to Game Rant. For a triple-A game of this caliber, "Star Wars Battlefront II" has even failed to snag the top spot in sales.

However, it seems to be too late especially since the game received a lot of criticism for what most early critics have described as "unnecessary" or "incessant" microtransactions. This along with pay-to-win mechanics that the game was feared by most to have. According to Video Gamer, there are speculations circulating that the sales of "Star Wars Battlefront II" will once again pick up as the movie "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" draws nearer, which is during Christmas time.

If that will be the case, it would appear that Disney would have to somehow pick up the slack just to make sure that the beloved space opera franchise does not suffer in any way, shape, or form especially since all of the franchise's projects are tied together quite closely.
