"Star Wars Rebels" season 3 is premiering on Disney XD this coming Sept. 24. The announcement was made via the official "Star Wars" Twitter account, showcasing an image of the season's main antagonst, Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen).

As stated in a report from IGN, the announcement also came with a brand-new teaser trailer. The trailer, much like the longer one showcased during the Star Wars Celebration, introduces two characters that will become key components of season 3.

One is known Bendu (Tom Baker), a large elemental-type of creature that claims to be in between both sides of the Force, living between the Light and the Dark. It is speculated that Bendu can utilize the Force in ways even a Jedi such as Ezra (Taylor Grey) or Kanan (Freddie Prinze Jr.) cannot.

As previously reported, Thrawn originates from the 1980s novels by Timothy Zahn. The books are now considered non-canon and have been labeled as "Star Wars Legends" but the character of Thrawn will retain the same basic personality, design and genius-level intelligence that makes him a formidable foe for the Rebel Alliance.

Grand Admiral Thrawn is not the only threat, however, as Darth Maul (Sam Witwer) has been confirmed to return. Darth Maul had encountered Ezra in season 2 and in season 3 will continue to push the young Jedi apprentice into the Dark Side of the Force although his exact mission and objectives are still unknown.

A report from Screen Rant also reveals that season 3 will see a visual change in the series as it aesthetically begins to match the same style of "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," a spin-off live-action film that is set just before the events of "Star Wars: A New Hope." "Rogue One" focuses on the Rebel Alliance team that stole the Death Star plans.

"Star Wars Rebels" season 3 premieres this Sept. 24.
