New details about the plot for "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" was revealed, thanks to "Rogue One: Catalyst," a prequel novel that sets up the highly-anticipated spinoff.

In the book description acquired by Stitch Kingdom, it was revealed that Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen), the father of protagonist Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) is the man that brought the Death Star to life.

Galen is a "brilliant scientist" who is doing a much sought after research on energy. He also happens to be an old friend of "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" antagonist Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn).

In "Catalyst" Galen, his wife Lyra, and his daughter Jyn felt beholden to Krennic after he saved their lives. The villain used this to his advantage and pushed Galen to continue his work on energy as Krennic provides everything he needs to complete it.

Unbeknownst to him and his family, Galen was actually taking part in the making of the infamous moon-sized superweapon, which would later be used by the Empire to stop the Rebels.

According to Wired, this will likely play out in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." This also teases the possibility of Jyn eventually betraying the Rebels because of how she ties into all of this.

It is heavily rumored that Jyn will turn her back against the Rebels, who sent her to retrieve the plans for the Death Star. His father's involvement will definitely impact her judgment.

In other related news, Jones recently spoke about the Rebels in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." While promoting her film, "A Monster Calls," she teased a bit about the folks fighting to stop the Empire.

"I think you'll love all the rebels. Because they're flawed. They've all had histories, they've all had their own struggles, and I feel like people are going to really champion them and fall in love with them," the actress said as quoted by Yahoo.

These rebels include Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker), Chirrut Imwe (Donnie Yen), Bodhi Rook (Riz Ahmed) and Baz Malbus (Jiang Wen) among others.

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will hit the big screen on Dec. 18.
