"Suicide Squad" is already packed with an impressive ensemble, and the latest trailer confirms that Batman (Ben Affleck) will have a cameo in the film. It is also rumored that Aquaman (Jason Momoa) will be there as well. However, it appears that Superman (Henry Cavill) will not be appearing in the film, even in just a short cameo. 

The news comes directly from Cavill. Speaking to Metro, he gave a firm "no" with regard to the Man of Steel appearing in the villain-led film. 

In retrospect, the decision makes sense since the film is primarily filled with villains coming from Batman's rogue gallery, although a few of them, such as Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), were originally villains to the Flash (Ezra Miller) and other DC superheroes. The film is also set to take place primarily in Gotham City as the inmates come from Arkham Asylum. 

There are also speculations that "Suicide Squad" occurs before the events in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" or immediately after, which makes it very unlikely for Superman to logically make an appearance in the film due to story progression. 

However, Cavill did not rule out his inclusion in case there would be a sequel. When asked if he would appear in a future installment of "Suicide Squad," the actor replied with a simple, "I might be!" 

Cavill's reply is not definite, as there are no current plans for "Suicide Squad 2." Cavill might be included if the story calls for it, but it is unlikely that he'll be shoe-horned into the film just for the sake of it. After all, DC and Warner Bros. Pictures are reported to be currently trying to build their cinematic universe around Affleck's Batman, not Superman. 

Cavill's Superman isn't being left behind, however, as there are plans for a proper sequel to "Man of Steel" although no director or script has been reportedly attached to the project. 

"Suicide Squad" will open in theaters on Aug. 5, 2016.
