'Super Mario Odyssey' news: Will Nintendo come out with new DLC?

Will "Super Mario Odyssey" get its own DLC soon? Nintendo

Video game giant Nintendo has hinted at the possibility of new downloadable content (DLC) for "Super Mario Odyssey." While the content of the DLC is still a mystery, there are clues as to what the DLC's inclusions might be. This is because dataminers have found images in the game's coding that hint at the possibility of new Power Moons in the game's future.

Even though "Super Mario Odyssey" has been touted as one of the best games of 2017, Nintendo has not yet given the game its own paid DLC. Other Nintendo games like "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" and "Fire Emblem Warriors" have already been given DLC, but "Super Mario Odyssey" has yet to see additional paid content.

However, this is not to say that Nintendo has not given the game any additional content at all. In Feb. 22, Nintendo released a free update called "Balloon World" for the game. This update included a mini game, as well as more outfits and camera filters for the game.

Still, fans have been wondering when the latest "Super Mario" game will get new DLC. Fortunately, creators at Nintendo seem open to the idea.

"There's a lot of volume in 'Super Mario Odyssey,'" said the game's producer Yoshiaki Koizumi in an interview with Game Informer. "That was a big focus in development: give the player loads to do. We pushed ourselves to create as much as we could. I can't announce anything specifically today, but of course, if there was a really cool idea for us to do, then we would certainly be thinking about DLC."

The Cutting Room Floor has also discovered through data mining that there is Hint Art hidden in the code of the game's version 1.2 update. Because the images appeared when the update was made available, it is therefore likely that the images were new and not indicative of content that Nintendo cut from the game.

There were 20 images of Hint Art, some of which were screenshots of the game, while the others seemed to be abstract art indicating places where Power Moons could be.

Power Moons are collectible items that enable the player to progress through the story of the game.

Given that Yoshiaki Koizumi has said that Nintendo is open to the idea of DLC for "Super Mario Odyssey," it is therefore possible that the Hint Art is further evidence of additional content for the game in the future.

Nintendo released "Super Mario Odyssey" on Oct. 27, 2017.
