'Super Mario Maker' news: New DLC coming to the game

Nintendo

"Super Mario Maker" could be getting some downloadable content (DLC) very soon, but it will not the kind everyone is hoping for.

The first bit of DLC reportedly coming to the game is supposedly arriving in the form of Nekki, also known as the mascot of the famous Famitsu magazine, Destructoid reported.

That's about it in terms of what is known about the DLC that is supposedly coming to "Super Mario Maker," and there can be good and bad news taken away from it.

The bad news, thus far at least, is that it would seem that Nekki will be offered only as DLC exclusively to the Japanese version of "Super Mario Maker." Considering how unfamiliar the character is to western audiences, it's a long shot that this mascot ends up anywhere outside of home.

The good news is that the rumors of Nekki being offered as DLC is a positive sign that Nintendo is showing that they are heavily invested in "Super Mario Maker" and that more content figures could be on its way in the future. Nintendo already took this kind of approach to releasing DLC when it came to "Mario Kart 8," according to iDigital Times. The company may very well be planning to follow the same steps again for "Super Mario Maker."

At this point, there is no available release date for the Nekki DLC.

In related news, other "Super Mario Maker" content in the form of a new stage was recently unveiled as new DLC for "Super Smash Bros."

The new stage is based entirely on the chaotic yet enjoyable environment of "Super Mario Maker," and it offers a unique type of battleground for players of the popular fighting game.

The layout of the "Super Mario Maker" stage even changes each time players try it out, according to Digital Trends.

"Super Smash Bros." will be getting the new stage on Sept. 30.
