The August night sky had brought a spectacular show during the Perseid and Delta Aquarid meteor showers and this month, another astronomical event is set to occur.

For September, a supermoon lunar eclipse will be visible from the sky. This rare event will take place for the first time since its last appearance way back in 1982.

It is considered rare since a lunar eclipse and a supermoon will both appear at the same time.

The moon usually orbits around the Earth and this means that it does not always bear the same distance away from the planet.

When a full moon is on its perigee — when the moon is closest to the Earth — it can be seen as a 14 percent larger entity compared to the usual moon on an average day. This now will be called the "supermoon" and every year, there are about a few occurrences of this event.

Meanwhile, if a full moon meets an eclipse, or when the full moon perigee passes on the Earth's shadow, that is when a supermoon lunar eclipse happens. This very rare event is said to take place only a few times in a hundred years.

Meanwhile, EarthSky.org has detailed the schedule of the lunar eclipse visible from different regions.

Most of North America and all South American regions should see the lunar eclipse by Sept. 27 after sunset.

For those who are from Greenland and the eastern South America, expect the supermoon lunar eclipse from midnight of Sept. 27 going to Sept. 28.

In Europe, Middle East, and Africa, people can witness the total eclipse in the early morning — after midnight and before the sun rises on Sept. 28.

Those in the North and South Americas, Greenland, Africa, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Middle East are the luckiest since these places are the best spot where the supermoon eclipse will be visible.

Those who enjoy watching the sky at night should not miss out this opportunity as the next supermoon lunar eclipse won't happen until 2033.
