More heartbreaks are coming in the fifth season of "Switch at Birth" when it airs this summer.

At the end of season 4, fans were devastated when Emmett (Sean Berdy) broke things off with Bay (Vanessa Marano) so he can focus more on his studies at university. Bay had a lot of things on her mind at the moment, and losing Emmett is another big blow for the already troubled teen. Will things improve for her next season?

Lea Thompson, the actress who portrays the role of Bay's legal mother Kathryn, told E! News that things will be worse for Bay and the rest of the Kennish family in "Switch at Birth" season 5.

"With Bay dealing with the fallout from her breakup, Kathryn always tries to keep a stiff upper lip and keep everyone moving forward with a lighter touch," the actress shared.

Thompson also mentioned that Bay will focus on her music, but it will not be as smooth sailing as what she could have wanted. Also, the actress shared that the family will experience tough times ahead in the season.

"There's going to be big financial problems with John (D.W. Moffett) and Kathryn and that's going to be really challenging. They're so used to being able to fix everything and being the mama and papa bear, but they can't this time and that's going to be really hard on them," Thompson said.

Meanwhile, Daphne's (Katie Leclerc) drive to become a doctor might also be featured in the plot for season 5. Her goals were diverted last season because she failed her chemistry class, but the accident that her friends had suddenly reminded her why she wanted to become a doctor in the first place. Will Mingo's (Adam Hagenbuch) kiss last season add another push for Daphne that will lead her to pursue medical school?

"Switch at Birth" season 5 will reportedly premiere on August 24 on ABC Family.
