The second episode for "Switched at Birth" season 4 ended with more drama for Bay and Daphne, and the upcoming chapter set to launch next week will continue to be more complicated for the "switchsters."

In episode two titled "Bracing the Waves," Bay (Vanessa Marano) finally stood up for herself by letting Tess (Sarah Ritter) know that she will not be pushed over anymore. Daphne, on the other hand, struggled with her new study group.

But what will the switched girls face in episode 3? The synopsis for the third episode titled "I Lock the Door Upon Myself" reads:

Bay gets an interview for a long-awaited submission with the Kansas City Artist Showcase to have her art be part of a public display but realizes her current status may prevent her from qualifying. When a dorm resident continues to prank the deaf students, Daphne challenges him to a dorm triathlon. Regina finds herself drawn to an East Riverside coffee house and its owner. A birthday milestone gets John thinking about the next chapter in his life. Meanwhile, Emmett makes a new friend at film school who gets him a gig on a real production."

The new episode set to air next week seems to feature the new struggles in the lives of the two girls. Bay's plans to launch a career in arts had to be sidetracked after she decided to take the blame for Daphne's crimes in order to help the latter pursue her own dreams of becoming a doctor. But that decision is slowly taking a toll on her.

Meanwhile, Daphne is challenged with her new life in college, after some of the people in her dorm discriminates deaf students like her.

On the other hand, Kathryn's (Lea Thompson) life will turn upside down when her mother Bonnie (Meredith Baxter) returns to town, bringing her friend Lucille (Joanna Cassidy) with her to break some shocking news.

"Switched at Birth" season 4 episode 3 returns on Jan. 20.
