Tesla has been known to make beautiful and luxurious electric cars. Not only that, it is also a known maker of expensive battery-powered cars that only cater to a select market. But that will change soon as Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors, announced that the Tesla Model 3 will be launched March next year and is expected to be made available in the market in 2017.

The impending launch of Tesla's first mass-market electric car is shaking up the automotive world, especially when Musk said that the car will be able to reach a 320-km range on a single charge. This figure can significantly change how people see electric cars, now a viable vehicle option even for long trips.

In the past, trip planning is a necessity with electric cars as drivers try to bring out the best mileage within an electric car's very limited range. But with the ability to reach farther, it can be treated like just another gas-powered car. With its affordable price and improved reach, Model 3 might change the minds of many car buyers.

Model 3 will be a game changer as it will reportedly be carrying a price tag of just $35,000, a first in the history of Tesla. However, buyers need to wait for quite a while as the car will roll out in two years' time.

The production and rollout of the car is dependent on the completion of the Gigafactory the company is currently constructing. This factory will be producing the batteries that will be used in the new cars.

There are no details yet on the design and look of the new Tesla Model 3, but Musk promised that it will be very different from the cars people see every day on the streets. Looking at the design philosophy of Tesla, it is not hard to imagine Model 3 as a car with refined aesthetics.

Tesla is currently on the roll as it will also be delivering the first orders of its Model X SUVs this month. This new SUV will come at a higher price of around $132,000.
