The pilot episode of Kurt Sutter's upcoming series "The Bastard Executioner" might debut at the San Diego Comic-Con July 9 to 12.

Fans may also see more images of Lee Jones, who will be playing the warrior knight Wilkin Brattle in the historical drama. Aside from "The Bastard Executioner," FX is set to promote most of its hit shows at the convention, including "Fargo," "Archer," "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," "American Horror Story: Hotel," "The Strain," and the new comedy series "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll."

Set in the early 14th century, "The Bastard Executioner" follows the story of Brattle, a knight under the charge of King Edward I. He abandons his life of violence and war in order to live a more peaceful existence. However, the tall and commanding champion will be forced to leave his visions of tranquility and pick up the bloodiest sword of all, that of the executioner.

Other stars who will topbill the series alongside Jones are Sarah Sweeney as Jessamy Maddox, Stephen Moyer as Milus Corbett, Katey Sagal as Annora of the Alders, and Brian F. O'Byrne as Baron Ventris, among others. Sutter himself will be seen onscreen as he takes the role of the Dark Mute.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the creator/executive producer talked about how his inspiration was writing the historical drama.

"I love history. I love theology. I love blood. It's been very satisfying weaving fact and fiction to create a new mythology that combines all these elements. And with this extraordinary cast—Stephen Moyer, Katey Sagal and newcomer Lee Jones—this world explodes onscreen," he explained.

Meanwhile, Sutter has been doing some promotion of the series on his own, taking into social media to release images of Jones and an image of what one of the villages would look like in the show. He later identified the hamlet as the "Court Village Ventrishire, Wales circa 1311."

The Bastard Executioner is set to premiere this fall on FX.
