Fans who loved Famke Janssen and Ryan Eggold as mother and son Scottie and Tom in "The Blacklist" will be in for a big treat with the spinoff "The Blacklist: Redemption," which will center on the exploits of these two characters.

While it is only this time that this spinoff is being talked about and heard of, "The Blacklist: Redemption" is actually a concept that has been brewing for years.

"You know, this Tom Keen spinoff thing was a whisper I heard a long time ago. I want to say end of season 1 or beginning of season 2—I mean, a long time ago," Eggold told TV Line.

However, since there hasn't been anything concrete that came out of it at that time, Eggold was under the impression that "The Blacklist: Redemption" is nothing but a rumor.

Things did not get started to be set in place until the latter half of the third season of the series. "The Blacklist: Redemption" will deal with political matters and will rip topics right from the headlines.

"Scottie's hiring spies like myself to influence governments, and [there are] empires rising and falling and the behind-the-scenes of that," the actor explained, adding that things like "corporations having all the power and influence on politics" will be dealt with.

"If we get into a dramatized version of that world, where we are spies operating with those 1-percenters, that's a really fun world that people want to see right now," he added.

Even though Eggold will be in "The Blacklist: Redemption," his character is planned to still very much be part of "The Blacklist." The actor told Today that there are plans being made on how Tom can appear in the parent series and in the spinoff.

In "The Blacklist," it was Tom and baby Agnes that pushed Liz (Megan Boone) to fake her death. Living their lives as a family is still on her mind.

But if Tom were to have little screen time in the series, Liz's dream may still be far from being achieved. Not like it is already tricky, since Liz has been captured by a man who claims to be her father—Alexander Kirk.

He is, of course, the same man who got her in this mess. Kirk promised in "The Blacklist" season 4 finale that Liz's family are alright, but right now, Liz has no reason to believe any word this man says.

"The Blacklist: Redemption" has no premiere date yet.
