A new trailer for "The Blacklist" season 4 has bee released, and while it is short, it reveals several key plot points that will be explored in the show such as Reddington's (James Spader) connection to Liz (Megan Boone), as well as more information regarding Liz's family, particularly her mother, and Alexander Kirk (Ulrich Thomsen).

"Through the investigation of Alexander Kirk, she finds a lot of her mother's memorabilia and private journals," Boone told Entertainment Weekly. "A lot is revealed to her about her mother, who she's known nothing about her whole life, and through her mother, she learns actually a lot more about Reddington," she added.

It should be noted that during the season 3 finale, it was revealed that Liz had only faked her death in order to live a peaceful life with her husband and child, but at the last moment, she was kidnapped by Alexander, a man who claimed to be her biological father.

Even Megan Boone confirmed that she has no idea at this point on who Red is in connection to Liz. Many fans speculate that Red is Liz's true biological father or that he may be connected to her mother. However, in previous seasons, Red himself denied such allegations.

Boone did explain that the only people aware of Red's true connection to Liz are the producers and actor James Spader. She did explain that she preferred to not know the truth until it was revealed on the show.

The trailer also showcases that Liz's fate had been doomed from the very beginning, back when she was an infant. According to Red, he knew both Liz and her mother were going to die, but he could only save one, and in the end, he chose to save Liz. This will coincide with the previous trailer showcasing that Red was there when Liz's father presumably died in the fire that destroyed her childhood home.

"The Blacklist" season 4 premieres this Sept. 22.
