"The Crown" season 2 has wrapped up filming and stars Claire Foy and Matt Smith, who play lead characters Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, recently discussed what viewers can expect next. During a panel interview at The Netflix FYSee Space, the TV couple confirmed the upcoming season will focus on the Queen's marriage struggles.

"The Crown" season 2 will open in the 1960s where the Queen and Prince Philip have been married for 10 years. It's a decade rife with sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll and the world outside is changing. Inside at the Buckingham Palace, the royals also learn to cope with the changes with two growing kids, Prince Charles and Princess Anne, amidst an encroaching and growing public interest of the royals' affairs.

"In Season 2, it gets a bit hairier," Smith declared, as reported by Variety. He also confirmed the new season of "The Crown" will delve more into his character's background, implying Prince Philip did not have the best childhood experience. "In Season 2, there are scenes I would never want to relive," Smith added.

Foy, meanwhile, acknowledged "The Crown" season 2 will not be giving the royals "a rose-tinted view of marriage," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Foy also confirmed the show finished filming, which made her sad because this season would be her last. The cast knew from the beginning that they will be replaced for the third season as their characters age.

Meanwhile, a palace insider dished the Queen viewed the first season of "The Crown" and loved it. Her youngest son, Prince Edward, convinced her to watch and the Queen was pleased despite finding some depictions about her life too dramatized, according to Express.

Apparently, nearly everyone in the royal household appreciated "The Crown" as a well-made production and not just because it was about them. Netflix has not yet revealed the second season's exact release date but it is tentatively calendared for November.
