'The Flash' season 2 news: Earth-1 Supergirl teased by showrunner

CBS

The appearance of Barry Allen aka The Flash (Grant Gustin) on "Supergirl" boosted both shows and marked a triumphant moment in television given that the shows were able to do a crossover despite being on different networks. A new report from Entertainment Weekly gives hope that it may happen again, with Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) appearing on "The Flash."

However, the report reveals that it will not be the same Supergirl from the CBS show, despite being the same actress. According to executive producer Andrew Kreisberg, this is because the Supergirl aka Kara Danvers that may appear on "The Flash" will not be from the CBS universe but from Earth-1, the universe the Flash originates from.

"Any Kara that exists on Earth 1 would also have to have been an alien. It can't just be Kara Danvers from Poughkeepsie," he explained. When asked if she would appear as Supergirl, Kreisberg replied, "Sure, different costume, but sure."

While it does not directly confirm that Supergirl will be crossing over to "The Flash" this season, it is hinted that it may happen in the future, potentially in "The Flash" season 3. The idea of crossing over to multiple universes and timelines has been the main strength of "The Flash" and the new relationship between The CW and CBS networks makes this all the more possible.

According to a report from Screen Rant, it is speculated that the Earth-1 version of Kara might be Karen Starr instead of Kara Danvers. This version from the comic books is known as Power Girl instead of Supergirl and sports a different kind of costume.

The report also points out that CBS has yet to announce if "Supergirl" is getting renewed for a second season. If the show is not renewed, Melissa Benoist may still reprise her role, appearing on "The Flash," akin to how Matt Ryan was able to reprise his role as John Constantine in "Arrow" even after the stand-alone "Constantine" series was cancelled.
