The Good Wife season 6 renewed, premiere date [CBS]: Season 5 finale to end in cliffhanger tonight
"The Good Wife" season 5 finale will be airing tonight on CBS at 9 p.m. ET.
The official synopsis for "The Good Wife" season 5 finale episode titled "A Weird Year" is as follows: "An open feed from a camera mistakenly left on after a teleconferenced deposition between the lawyers of Florrick/Agos and Lockhart/Gardner reveals a threat to the firm that Alicia and Cary never saw coming. Meanwhile, the fate of Lockhart/Gardner hangs in the balance as Louis Canning vies for a larger role. Also, Alicia entrusts Zach's high school graduation party to Jackie and Veronica, on the fifth season finale." Michael J. Fox returns as Louis Canning. Mary Beth Peil and Stockard Channing return as Peter's mother, Jackie Florrick, and Alicia's mother, Veronica Loy."
Regarding tonight's finale episode, Juliana Margulies, who plays Alicia, told Entertainment Weekly. "There's tremendous unrest at Florrick/Agos, and the truth is, Alicia is tired of just trying to keep above water with this firm. And she's looking for something else. And I don't know if it's just about the firm or her life, but everything seems to be difficult. I think she is at the end of her tether, so to speak."
Earlier this season, viewers saw the shocking death of Will Gardner, played by Josh Charles. The season's finale is set to end in a cliffhanger, with showrunner Robert King saying, "It's a cliff-hanger much more similar to the end of season 4. I don't know if I would call it a cliff-hanger when Alicia says "I'm in" to Cary and starts all the dominoes falling for season 5. It's only a cliff-hanger in that it's like the end of the chapter and it makes you want to move on to the next chapter."
In a spoiler chat with TV Line, King was also quoted as saying that the "events of the May 18 finale will catapult the show onto a "bigger battlefield" in the fall, complete with "bigger emotions" and "more serialized storytelling."
He continued, "We're taking what we thought worked in Season 5 and seeing if we can make that stuff do something different in Season 6."
Last week, the renewal of CBS shows were announced, including "The Good Wife." Despite a big drop in ratings this season, the network renewed the show for another season. "The Good Wife" looks to premiere after the summer break, in September 2014.
