"The Last of Us 2" is one of the most highly anticipated games for the PlayStation 4, particularly now with the launch of the PS4 Pro and its additional power to run games at 4K resolution. However, new information suggests that the sequel could be pushed back as far as 2020 due to issues with running the original game on the PS4 Pro.

As per a report from Eurogamer, "The Last of Us: Remastered" runs smoothly on the regular PS4. On the PS4 Pro, it can perform at 60 fps when set to 3200x1800 resolution, but this drops to a cap of 30 fps when running at the native 4K resolution. When trying to force it to run at 60 fps, the frame rate sees a slight dip.

However, larger problems arise when the game is played with the PS4 Pro settings on and with a 1080p television screen instead of a 4K display. At 1080p there is no HDR, and the frame rate chugs as it struggles to maintain a consistent number. The frame rate drop is caused by the PS4 Pro utilizing its resources to enhance anti-aliasing.

Because of these changes, the PS4 Pro setting for the game makes it play more sluggish than how it is played on a base PS4 model, which should not be the case given that the PS4 Pro is advertised as a more powerful and faster console. Naughty Dog's struggles with "The Last of Us" on the PS4 Pro may cause the sequel to be delayed.

It should be noted that Naughty Dog has yet to confirm if the issues of the original game on the PS4 Pro will cause "The Last of Us 2" to be pushed back.

Rumors suggest that the developers are already in the early stages working on the game now that "Uncharted 4" is out but the company has yet to officially confirm this. These rumors also suggest the game may launch in 2020, although no statement has been issued by Naughty Dog to support this.
