'The Legend of Zelda' Wii U release date: open world overhaul in upcoming title?

Not much is being said about the highly-anticipated "The Legend of Zelda" Wii U and so any piece of info about the upcoming game is welcome. That piece of new intel comes from Nintendo producer Eiji Aonuma, who spoke about how fan feedback will factor in the title.

In an interview with IGN, he revealed that most of the feedback from gamers of the Zelda installment "Skyward Sword" involved the lack of a "bigger open world." Aonuma said that this criticism will be seen in action in its much-awaited Wii U title.

"Unfortunately, I can't go into details but I'm hoping to put a surprise, or kind of a twist, on my view of an open world game. I hope that you'll look forward to it," the Nintendo producer went on to say, hinting that a massive open world overhaul for "Legend of Zelda" Wii U might be in the offing.

On the other hand, Aonuma also emphasized that Nintendo could only put so much of the fan feedback to the game or else the element of surprise, which the game studio values and believes adds to the thrill of video gaming, will be gone. But it has figured out a way to find the middle ground.

"If there's a comment and they're asking for certain element, I would think, 'Oh, why not interpret this in a different way that you wouldn't expect?' That's how we create a new element in a Zelda game. I always want to implement something new and surprising into every game," he explained.

In a nutshell, fans can look forward to "The Legend of Zelda" Wii U with the hope that it will be both surprising and familiar. Nintendo is doing its very best to style the game into one how fans envision it while keeping the all-important shock value.

"The Legend of Zelda" Wii U will be out sometime next year. More concrete details about the game are expected to surge in the months to come.
