'The Maze Runner 3' release date: Movie pushed back to January 2018

Tragedy struck the production of "The Maze Runner: The Death Cure" back in March when actor Dylan O'Brien was caught in an accident while filming a stunt for the movie. According to Entertainment Weekly, his injuries have not only pushed back production but also the film's release date, which has now been moved to January 2018.

According to the report, there is no definitive date when production will continue but it is expected to be prior to the end of the year. Game N Guide states that production may have been moved to early 2017 although the studios have yet to confirm if this time frame is accurate.

The studios have reportedly confirmed that the film is not canceled but it will be postponed indefinitely as O'Brien continues to recover. His injuries are more extensive than initially revealed and may take months for recovery to complete.

O'Brien's injuries were the result of a stunt accident on the set of the film. The actor was wearing a harness and strapped to a safety device as he was moving from one vehicle to another in front.

However, the vehicle behind, which held his strap and safety rig, slowed down too quickly. This forcibly yanked the actor underneath the car that was supposed to keep him safe. In April it was announced that the injuries were more severe than previously announced and that he would need more time to recover, thus causing the delays.

Because of the delay for "The Maze Runner: The Death Cure," several other Fox properties have been bumped up and shifted around. "Murder on the Orient Express" has been moved to Nov. 22, 2017 while the upcoming "Predator" film has been shifted to Feb. 9 2018. Two unannounced Marvel films, likely "X-Men" films, are scheduled for March 2, 2018 and June 29, 2018.

"The Maze Runner: The Death Cure" is now scheduled for release on Jan. 12, 2018.
