"The Originals" aired its winter finale last week, and what would have been a happy Christmas for the Mikaelson siblings was marred by the death of a person close to one of them.

In the episode, Rebekah (Claire Holt) was temporarily resurrected just in time to celebrate the holidays with her brother. But the curse that was put on her caused her to suffer and she asked Elijah (Daniel Gillies) to help her by ending her life. Meanwhile, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Cami (Leah Pipes) finally gave in to their feelings, but after sharing a night together, Klaus woke up to find Cami next to him with her throat slashed.

Speaking with Variety, show creator Julie Plec previewed what's to come in the second half of the season and teased what awaits Cami when the show returns to The CW.

"This isn't the last we've seen Leah Pipes grace the screen of this show," Plec said. "The question is what context we'll see her again and just how tragic that will be."

It has been speculated that some vampire blood might be the key to saving Cami's life and when she returns, it's possible that she will be reborn as a vampire.

When the show returns, Plec said that fans should expect a very angry Klaus to grace their TV screens. As his ex, Aurora (Rebecca Breeds) was the one who viciously slashed Cami's throat in a fit of jealousy and rage. Klaus will be out for revenge and the showrunner says that once he gets his hands on Aurora, "it's not going to be pretty."

As for Daniel, Plec said that he will be heartbroken after he was forced to stab Rebekah, as he wanted to do the right thing for the whole family.

"In this particular case, he understands that Rebekah needs to be put down," Plec explained.

"The Originals" returns on Friday, Jan. 29 on The CW.
