Will it take a major character death to spawn a "The Vampire Diaries" crossover with its spinoff show "The Originals"?

This is a huge possibility hinted by a report from Game and Guide, which speculates that it would take the death of a major character for Caroline (Candice Accola) to visit New Orleans to see Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan), and perhaps even reignite their romance.

Fans of the two characters have long been wanting to see a reunion between the two, and it was earlier hinted that it would be Caroline who saves Klaus from the Tunde Blade, reported News Everyday. This theory makes a lot of sense because throughout their relationship, it has been Caroline whom Klaus has always reached out to whenever he needed help.

Meanwhile, it would also be interesting to see how the reported five-year time jump will affect the relationship of Klaus with his daughter.

According to showrunner Julie Plec, the dynamics between father and daughter will be something that fans of the show have to look forward to as this will present a different side to the Original vampire hybrid.

"This is a girl who has no real memories of her father, so we'll be able to see what Hayley has done, if anything, to keep her aware of her father, who he is, and what the truth is about her life ... We'll see a young girl and see where she is with her own abilities. We'll get to see father and daughter eventually reunited, two strangers coming together with so much in common. There's some really special moments between them," Plec said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Klaus, being one of the most powerful characters in the franchise, may also be the only person who is able to explain to Hope the magnitude of her powers, since he is in the same boat himself.

"The Originals season 4" is expected to return to The CW by January or February 2017.
