In the next episode of "The Orville," Captain Ed Mercer (Seth MacFarlane) and his crew encounter a planet that mysteriously appears out from nowhere.

The trailer for the upcoming installment titled "Mad Idolatry" was just released recently and showed the Orville approaching a huge planet in front of it. "What is that? Where the hell did it come from?" Mercer says to the crew. John LaMarr (J. Lee) replies in confusion, "It just appeared out of thin air?" The rest of the crew look at the planet in astonishment. Mercer then decides to have a squad enter the planetoid's atmosphere to explore the surface. The squad led by Kelly Grayson (Adrienne Palicki) uses the transport ship to enter the mysterious planet's sky. However, it is not without any turbulence as the ship is bumped from side to side.

Apparently, the mission is very dangerous because Mercer thinks that if they do not proceed according to plan, it is possible that people can die during the endeavor. "You'll die there," Mercer warns his crew members. It seems that the only way everyone can make it out alive is that if one person sacrifices himself for the others. "We will never be able to repay you for what you are doing," Grayson says to the unknown savior. It remains to be seen where the planet comes from and who among the team will sacrifice their life for the rest.

In the last episode, the crew encountered a space anomaly wherein anything that passed it would go into a two-dimensional plane of existence. They were able to use the anomaly to avoid getting noticed by the enemy Krill. Once the opposing group was gone, the Orville reappeared in the three-dimensional setting.

"The Orville" season 1 episode 12 will air on Thursday, Dec. 7, at 9 p.m. EST on FOX.
