The story of Duck Dynasty's Robertson family is to be turned into a musical

(A&E)

The story of how the Robertson family grew a small duck call business into an empire that includes a hit reality TV show and numerous best-selling books is the inspiration behind a new musical reportedly in the works.

According to Us Weekly, discussions are underway between the Dodger theatre company and the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas to produce The Duck Commander Family Musical.

The magazine says the musical will be based on the book, The Duck Commander Family: How Faith, Family, and Ducks Built a Dynasty, written by Willie and Korie Robertson.

Work on the "semi-biographical' musical is slated to begin in early 2015 but Us magazine is already reporting that the music will feature lyrics by Robert Morris, Steven Morris and Joe Shane.

The trio contributed music and lyrics to the Whoopi Goldberg-produced White Noise musical.

Jeff Calhoun, who has worked on stage productions of Grease and High School Musical, will be the musical's director and choreographer.  The cast has yet to be announced.

In comments to Us Weekly, Korie revealed the musical would be aimed at families.

"It's gonna be cool and it'll be another play that people can take their kids to.  We love to go to musicals when we go to New York.  We're excited!" she said.
