Stefan (Paul Wesley) will choose to stay on the sidelines while the Heretics terrorize Mystic Falls in the upcoming season of The CW's "The Vampire Diaries."

E! News reveals that the younger Salvatore brother will convince Damon (Ian Somerhalder) to not be involved in Lily's (Annie Wersching) evil plans for the sleepy town. Apparently, he has made a deal with their mother that if they "do not mess" with her minions, they will not cause them harm.

Looking at the trailer released by the network, it certainly appears that Stefan has a point to wash his hands of the affair, as the Heretics prove to be so much more horrible than expected. Caroline (Candice Accola-King), however, will try to convince her vampire boyfriend that they are making a huge mistake by handing over Mystic Falls to "a bunch of supernatural terrorists."

While at first, Stefan seems to be sticking to his decision, he will soon be changing his mind after receiving a call from Lily, telling them to run. A scene from the teaser shows him trying to learn how to make a bomb, perhaps to blow the Heretics to pieces if they try to mess with the Salvatores.

Aside from wreckage and burning, viewers also caught a glimpse of an intimate encounter between the Steroline couple in the one-minute clip. Caroline is also front and center in the promo photos released by the CW for the upcoming installment.

Spoilers TV is quick to identify the female vampire as she comes face-to-face with the new bloodsucker witches in town. In the images, Caroline appears to be in trouble, as the meeting does not end well. A witch has put a spell on her and she can be seen writhing in pain.

"The Vampire Diaries" will return on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
