'The Vampire Diaries' updates: Bonnie Bennett to leave Mystic Falls after season 8

Kat Graham confirms Bonnie Bennett's departure from 'The Vampire Diaries' after season 8.The CW

Bonnie Bennett will have to say farewell to Mystic Falls at the end of season 8 after Kat Graham confirmed her departure from the show.

The 26-year-old actress talked to Us Magazine during Sunday's iHeartRadio Music Awards in Inglewood, California, saying that it will be hard for her to say goodbye to the show, but the next installment of the supernatural romance drama will be her last.

"Season 8 will be my last season," Graham said. "I just hope that whatever I do after, the crew can come with me. If the crew can come with me, then we'll be good. The crew is going to be the hardest thing to let go, because we are a family."

But she is still looking forward to portraying her role as the powerful witch who escaped the Prison World with Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) to return to Mystic Falls. She was also the love interest of Elena's brother, Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen).

But before her big farewell in season 8, Graham teased that a lot of things are still happening to Bonnie before the end of season 7.

"There's some really intense stuff with my character this season," the actress revealed. "I think the biggest episodes I've ever had are 20 [airing April 29] and 21 [airing May 6]. It's pretty major for the character — huge turns, a lot of stunts and cool s--t!"

Fans of the series are also expecting to see more action involving her and Damon as they retaliate against the evil vampire huntress Rayna Cruz (Leslie-Anne Huff).

Meanwhile, the fate of "The Vampire Diaries" after season 8 is still unconfirmed. In an interview with E! News, Somerhalder talked about what he wants to see in the show's eighth season and its possible future.

"We don't know where that's going to go but leaving the audience with the fact that by that time they will have spent eight years of their life with these people, I want the audience to feel closer, more afraid, more in love, more in tune with these characters than they ever have been," the actor said.

New episodes from "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 air every Friday on The CW.
