The finale of the midseason of the well-loved zombie apocalyptic series "The Walking Dead" is now upon clamoring fans. The series has been nothing but a stunning success, gaining a massive fan base across the world. Now that its fifth season is about to wind to a close, the expectations are high. Executive producer Gale Anne Hurd promises to deliver, adding that the characters and their individual depth and story are the factor that has fans crazy about the zombie-themed series.

"We got to see Rick re-embracing his leadership mantle, we got to see Carol as the savior of the group and we got to see elements of a different group of survivors and how they became cannibals and why. It's really a lot to cram into a one-hour episode," Gale told E Online.

Media outlets have also been putting their fingers on the fate of characters that await them as the season concludes. For one, Carter Matt raised a question about Michonne's exposure in the finale. The site says that although the camera may not be focused on her for more than enough time, it believes that Michonne will be able to go through the bedlams of the cannibal-peppered land.

Design & Trend, on the other hand, talked about how Carol (Melissa McBride) has developed in the course of the season and at the same time, went into the similarities 'in the mantle' as well as the differences to the comic's Andrea, which are gradually growing noticeable.

"I think she's got a very, very different journey, just look at where she started," Hurd argued. "So in terms of, is she a character on the show that you'd want to have your back? Absolutely. She will protect them at all costs," Gale explained via Design & Trend.

Showrunner Scott M. Gimple has something to say about it too. "Andrea in the comic has such an interesting evolution. There was a certain brashness and cockiness that she had. We've seen her mature. [But] Carol's journey is different because there's never been that cockiness," Gimple told The Hollywood Reporter in October. "Carol started out with an absence of strength in the face of Ed, and now she's easily one of the strongest characters," he added.

As the characters continue to keep the fans digging for more, Gale claims that the episode 8 titled "Coda" will be a bit of a tear-jerker. "I would say it is heartbreaking. It is, I think, completely unexpected and a fantastic way to end the midseason," said Gale. "Kickass, but totally heartbreaking," she added.
