There's no stopping "The Walking Dead" as the most popular zombie series on TV is getting closer to its premiere date.

Fans are excited for the return of some of their favorite characters and what the show has to bring when it comes to the walkers.

Speaking of which, it is expected that season 6 will bring more intense, zombie-filled show, as revealed by none other than the show's executive producer and special effects makeup designer, Greg Nicotero.

In an interview with AMC, Nicotero gave away that season 6 will feature more walkers to reveal a much bigger story. Furthermore, he even went on to tell the challenges the makeup team had to go through just to bring more fire to the show.

The upcoming season will, of course, feature more walkers, which means that the production will need more extras to play as the grotesque, flesh-eating monsters.

Nicotero said that they even had 97 people play as extras in make up all at one time.

"It's astounding when you look at a crowd of extras and you see that many people wearing prostheses. It's really exciting," he said in the interview.

The executive producer went on to say that they had to keep the anatomy as realistic as possible for the show and doing so has taken the zombies to a "whole different level."

He described that there will be zombies that have been skinned partially and also those that show signs of being eaten by wild animals.

To make things even more realistic, Nicotero said that some walkers could walk around with a weapon embedded into their bodies. This happens when an individual fights back with a weapon but fails and gets eaten by the walker instead.

Fans should expect walkers wandering around with machetes and other weapons stuck through them.

Another important thing to look forward to in the series is the fact that it will get more mysterious than ever, especially with character stories since the overall show has taken a different turn from the original source.

It would be difficult to make assumptions as to who-does-what and what-happens-to-whom in the story.

"The Walking Dead" season 6 will return on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 9 p.m. EST on AMC.
