The seventh season of AMC's "The Walking Dead" will not be a walk in the park as it prepares to open the show with its most emotional episode to date.

The show is expected to answer the cliffhanger question left by the season 6 finale where one beloved character will say goodbye to the show via Negan's bat Lucille.

In Robert Kirkman's graphic novel, it was Glenn who was the victim of Negan's ruthlessness as he was randomly selected by the leader of The Saviors to die.

It can be recalled that in the last season, Glenn (Steven Yeun) was believed to have died when he and Nicholas (Michael Traynor) got caught in a swarm of Walkers, but it turned out that he survived.

Despite the events in the graphic novel, however, fans are holding out hope that the show will deviate from the books and save Glenn, one of the remaining original cast members who has survived on the show.

"It was uncomfortable, and it was raw, and the emotion was real. And having to do take 2 or take 3 or take 4 and watching these people just in sheer agony was not a pleasant experience, to just watch what was happening. But that's where they needed to go to exhibit the emotion. So it was a really intense," former showrunner Greg Nicotero, who directed the episode, shared about the scene.

While everyone showed up with their game faces on, the scene was not easy even for actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who was supposed to be playing the big bad Negan dishing out the pain.

In an interview, the actor described the filming of the season 7 premiere as "10 days of hell."

As for his portrayal of Negan, Andrew Lincoln — who plays Rick Grimes — said Morgan "breathed a new terrifying life into the show, and at no better time."

"The Walking Dead" season 7 returns to AMC on Sunday, Oct. 23.
