The long-requested crossover of "The Walking Dead" (TWD) and its spinoff series "Fear The Walking Dead" (FTWD) is finally happening. TWD creator Robert Kirkman confirmed on Saturday night during the New York Comic-Con that the two programs will link up in an upcoming episode.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Kirkman did not specify whether an "FTWD" character will appear on Rick Grimes' (Andrew Lincoln) show or vice versa, only that one character will show up on the other show for the span of a single episode. "I'll say this: There are two 'Walking Dead' shows. One character is going to go from one show that I will not name and appear on another show that I will not name," the creator teased.

AMC confirmed the crossover plans with a tweet of a poster saying "The worlds collide." The caption read, "This is real. #crossover #TWD #FearTWD."

Being a prequel spin-off, "FTWD" has never had a crossover with the parent series as of yet. Some did not even think it would happen considering both shows take place at different points of time and in completely different locations. But as "FTWD" is already three seasons in, Kirkman explained that "[they've] finally gotten to a place where [they] can play with some things."

How the series will pull off the feat — whether there will be a flashback or a time jump — is under wraps as well. Indeed, the crossover could go either way, but some theories suggest Madison (Kim Dickens) could be the key to the crossover.

In "Fear The Walking Dead" season 3, Madison said she was from Alabama when her southern accent came out. That accent matches that of Rick's and the rest of his gang on "TWD." As a result, many speculated she might be related to someone from the parent series.

Per Comic Book, the actress debunked the claims before, but retracted it at the San Diego Comic-Con in July saying: "I think Madison is, probably, might be related to Daryl Dixon." Then again, this may also not be the answer.

More details are coming in the next couple of months, and hopefully, it includes a hint of who the crossover character might be.

In the meantime, fans can rejoin Rick and the gang for "The Walking Dead" season 8 on Oct. 22. As reported previously, the new season will see the inhabitants of Alexandria, Hilltop and the Kingdom going up against Negan and his saviors.
