The story about dragons and zombies has finally met its match: a story about a family's history.

Undoubtedly, "Game of Thrones" is followed by millions and millions of viewers who watch the high-fantasy show in a myriad of platforms. "This Is Us," a family drama on NBC, recently broke the reign of the HBO series in the ratings game in terms of on-demand viewership.

In the latest weekly report from Xfinity (via Indiewire), "This Is Us" became the most-watched TV show of the on-demand service as of this month. It exceeded "Game of Thrones" in rankings which constantly held the top spot on on-demand since May.

The rising viewership of "This Is Us" can be credited to the fact that the family drama series has just returned for its sophomore season with some viewers still catching up on the first season alongside recent episodes. Viewers using on-demand can watch any episode of any television program from any platform at their own convenient time.

"Game of Thrones" has been on a season break since August and the audience is now shifting their attention to the fall TV season calendar.

The premiere episode of season 2 of "This Is Us" hit ratings gold when it aired last Sept. 25. The drama series now has an average of 11 million viewers a week after airing three episodes. Last season, "This Is Us" averaged almost 10 million viewers per week.

The show's next episode will welcome back Rebecca's (Mandy Moore) mother, played by Elizabeth Perkins. The episode will also focus on the twins as Kate, played by Chrissy Metz, gets her first big job while Kevin, played by Justin Harley, struggles with a professional setback.

The preview for the episode also shows Kevin undergoing an operation for his old knee injury and Randall, played Sterling K. Brown, confronts a problem caused their teenage foster child.

In the meantime, "Game of Thrones" has started production for their eighth and final season in Belfast. The fantasy series is slated to come back on air either late 2018 or early 2019.
