The previous episode of "This Is Us" season 2 was a real tearjerker, taking fans back to the emotional scene of Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and his son, Kevin (Justin Hartley). As the young Pearson admitted he needed help, a much-complicated problem was revealed.

In this week's episode titled "Number One," fans saw Kevin getting out of control because of his Vicodin addiction. In a flashback scene, Jack was seen telling his son that he would also see his life's purpose. "I swear to you son, I swear, you will find yours," he said.

Even though Jack was also at the lowest point of his life at the time, he gave his necklace, which he considered his lucky charm, to his son. He told Kevin that he also got the chain when he felt very hopeless, given by someone special in Vietnam. And the day Jack wore it was the day Kevin was born and heartbreakingly said that he was his real purpose.

However, Kevin realized that he lost the necklace Jack gave him in "This Is Us" season 2. He broke down, sobbed and called someone for help. He tried to tell his adoptive brother, Randall (Sterling K. Brown), what was happening to him, but he was more surprised by his revelation. The weather trader told his sibling that Kate (Chrissy Metz) had a miscarriage and lost her baby.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Variety, Hartley talked about the events of "This Is Us" season 2 episode 8. As many can relate to what he is going through, the 40-year-old star wanted to make sure they would be delivering a factual story that is "honest and true."

Aside from tackling Kevin's addiction, Hartley wanted people to see the danger of being a drug addict. So, they just did not want to show how his habit will end, but they also wanted to reveal what they are going to lose if they continue doing it.

"This Is Us" season 2 airs every Tuesday at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
