"This War of Mine" will have a free update that adds new features and dimensions to the game.

The game, an indie collaboration exploring the civilian viewpoint about what war brings to civilization, now has new locations, character editor, and a host of new features. This new version is the biggest update to be made for the game, according to developer 11 Bit Studios.

In the 1.3 update, two new locations were added to the game. Players can now access the Gas Station, one of the very first places that people in the game looted while escaping the city; and the Old Town, a ruined façade like the rest of the city torn by a war like the real-life Siege of Saravejo during the conflict in Bosnia.

The new update also seems to focus on players controlling the flow of the game and immersing themselves more and more into the scenarios of "This War of Mine". An added feature is the Scenario Editor, a new tool in the game that lets players control the flow of the events in the game. Players can select which of the survivors to include in the conflict, alter the conditions such as weather and environment to regulate character actions, and make the conflict scenario last longer or shorter depending on what the player's actions would be.

The new update also brings into the game a new Character Editor. In this feature, players can create new civilians to put into the game, and change old ones using other looks, skills, gender, and background stories. The new Character Editor even allows uploading of photos, so that players can recreate themselves or their friends and place the new characters inside the game.

"This War of Mine" is available for the PC and iOS, and has been highly acclaimed for its riveting story and deep character development.
