Thousands of Christians from across the UK are to descend on Parliament Saturday to take part in a mass rally marking the 40th anniversary of the passing of the Abortion Act.

|PIC1|In October 1967, the Abortion Act received royal assent and abortion was legalised in Britain. Since then 6.7 million abortions have taken place, and an astonishing 465 more are taking place every single day.

During October, Christians across the nation have also said they will be standing up for what they describe as the "killing of innocent lives and the trauma caused to women and families affected by abortion", by holding services of remembrance, repentance and hope in various locations across Britain.

On Saturday at 2pm, a mass rally outside Parliament aims to raise awareness of a large percentage of the British public, from across the faiths and none, believe the current situation is no longer acceptable, and that the Government should carry out a full review of the current law.

Demonstrators will then walk to Westminster's Roman Catholic Cathedral for a service of repentance and commemoration of the millions of lives aborted.

Many Christians have stated their belief that October 2007 will be a key month in British history, and are willing to take a stand for the ethical and moral battleground against increasing secularism.

Andrea Minichiello Williams, public policy officer of the Lawyers' Christian Fellowship said: "Ministers are currently ignoring a major public mood-swing. Most people are dissatisfied with high abortion rates and want a reduction in the time limit on abortions.

"This autumn is also likely to see the introduction of the Human Tissue and Embryos (Draft) Bill to Parliament. Not only does this Bill further attack the dignity and value of the human embryo, but it goes to the very core of what it means to be human (by introducing animal-human hybrid embryos), and our understanding of what constitutes family.

"The introduction of this Bill will reopen the abortion debate in Parliament, and it is expected that amendments to abortion law will be put forward by both pro-life and pro-abortion activists."

She concluded, "October will provide a unique opportunity for Christians to speak out for those who cannot speak for themselves."
