'Tokyo Ghoul' season 3 release date: Series expected to air this year

Funimation

Season 3 of "Tokyo Ghoul" will indeed be airing sometime within the year.

In a recent interview that was reported on by Moviepilot, FUNimation President and CEO Gen Fukunaga clearly stated that the series would be returning to television this year.

The exact date for the premiere of "Tokyo Ghoul's" third season is still unknown, though that detail should be made available in the near future.

Fukunaga even gave some fans even more to look forward to after he hinted that there would be a mobile game based on the series that would also be released soon.

The "Tokyo Ghoul" mobile game would even be made available for both Apple and Android devices.

Unfortunately for Fukunaga and for some of the people over at FUNimation, the return of "Tokyo Ghoul" isn't exactly being met by widespread cheer from all over the place.

In fact, some fans would rather not even have the third season of "Tokyo Ghoul" be made available, and instead, they want to have a complete reboot of the anime.

As MNR Daily reported, some "Tokyo Ghoul" fans have already started a petition that aims to show FUNimation that a sizable segment of the anime's fan base are not happy with the direction of the series.

The folks behind the petition are hoping to amass around 10,000 signatures to bolster their claim, and the hope is that FUNimation will listen to such a significant segment of the fan base that wants a reboot of the series.

The fans behind the petition are pointing to changes being made in the anime's storyline as reasons for why they want a full reboot.

If the fans behind the petition are heard, then the reboot of "Tokyo Ghoul" will be more faithful to the contents of the manga.

More news about "Tokyo Ghoul" and the fate of the series should be made available in the future.
