Getting close to its release date, publisher Ubisoft has been releasing new and major details about its upcoming shooter, "Tom Clancy's The Division." Apparently, players will contend with missions in the city of New York, but although the publisher promises a massive map, players will not see the entirety of the city.

Ubisoft plans to launch "Tom Clancy's The Division" with players getting into action right in New York City, but the map itself will only be limited to Midtown Manhattan.

In an interview with The Examiner, "The Division" creative director Magnus Jansen said that the non-availability of other boroughs is in some ways connected to the story.

Jansen said, "For 'Tom Clancy's The Division' we are going with Midtown Manhattan. It is because of the 1 to 1 re-creation and the way the pandemic has [happened]. Basically, everything has been hit and there are no more resources because everyone tried to get out. There is no more gasoline in the cars, there is no traffic, you're on foot."

Jansen added that while the map will not have the whole of New York City accessible, players will see plenty of action in Midtown Manhattan itself.

"With the level of detail we have, doing Midtown Manhattan is a huge open-world experience and more than enough to sink your teeth into. It is a very sizable open-world game," the creative director stated.

Meanwhile, Eurogamer said that while there is no confirmation yet, Ubisoft might be planning on expanding the map to the entirety of New York City, or at least opening additional locations, as DLC expansions. Previously, Ubisoft let out images and video footages of the game, showing agents exploring and battling it out with other boroughs such as Brooklyn, Staten Island, and the Bronx as backdrops.

"Tom Clancy's The Division" releases on March 8 for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
