UFC rumors 2015: Werdum addresses criticism on Velasquez victory

As you may have heard by now, Fabricio Werdum's first title defense will be against the very same man he defeated last time out — Cain Velasquez.

For those who were able to watch, Vai Cavalo did dominate the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) legend, although many fans believed that the high altitude over in Mexico City aided Werdum in the win.

For his part, Werdum knew the impact it would have and such was the reason why he flew in weeks earlier to get himself acclimated to the location conditions. On the other end, such was not taken seriously by Velasquez, opting to train in the United States and flying in later to Mexico City Arena.

Come their fight, everyone knew that Velasquez' plan backfired. He admitted having trouble adjusting to the high altitude; but fans now seem to wonder if the outcome would have been different if Velasquez had gone there earlier or the fight were held somewhere else.

All that is water under the bridge now and the two will meet again. There is no word yet on where it will actually take place, although Werdum would be elated if the rematch would be set at the Arena do Grêmio right in his hometown, Porto Alegre, Brazil.

The stadium is a 60,000-seater and Werdum believes he can fill that up to about 50,000. On whether or not the stadium would be considered may be very well known next week when Werdum sits down with UFC president Dana White and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta.

As far as Velasquez is concerned, some are also pointing out the fact that the UFC legend had been out of action for quite some time. He had last gotten in the ring in October 2013 and this is something that many Velasquez loyalists believe was a factor in his loss to Werdum.

Regardless of the excuses and the issues surrounding their previous fight at UFC 188, the beliefs and rants may very well be addressed when the two fighters get into the ring once more. Hopefully details of when and where it will happen will be released soon.
