The USA will play Japan in the Women's World Cup 2015 Final on Sunday in a rematch of the final from the World Cup four years ago. At that time Japan won through a penalty shoot out after the game ended in deadlock. This year the United States will be out to set the record straight and gain revenge. Japan will be seeking a second successive World Cup title when they take on the United States on Sunday, and if they can accomplish that feat they will become the third nation to have won the Women's World Cup multiple times, pulling up alongside Germany and USA.

Four years ago the game between these two teams ended in a 2-2 draw, but Japan lifted the trophy after a dramatic penalty shoot out win.

The United States were able to gain a certain degree of revenge 12 months later though, winning 2-1 to take the Olympic Games gold medal at London 2012.

The USA will be favorites to win here today as well, having swept impressively past Germany in the semi finals 2-0. But Japan cannot be written off and they are the only team in the tournament to have won every single game so far.

However, their semi final win over England was a lot less clear cut, and they relied on an injury time freak own goal by England's Laura Bassett to give them a 2-1 win. Up until that point although Japan had controlled more of the possession, England had by far the best chances in the second half and the general feeling was that England were the ones pushing to claim the winning goal as things wound towards extra time.

If Japan are to win their second straight Women's World Cup they will have to find a way past this USA defense, which has allowed just one goal all tournament long, and even that was in their opening game.

USA looked to have hit their peak form in the semi finals, raising their game as needed to take down the team ranked number 1 in the world, Germany. Carl Lloyd scored a penalty after Germany's Celia Sasic had fired wide from a penalty at the other end just shortly before, and the United States made sure of the game soon after to gain a deserved win.

If the USA can win today it would put them out front as the nation with the most Women's World Cup wins. However, they have not won a World Cup title since 1999 and their new generation of players will be desperate to win the crown and relive those glory days.
