"Venom" is spreading fast in the Hollywood airwaves, as the director of the upcoming supervillain movie has revealed more details about the spinoff.

Ruben Fleischer, during the Comic-Con Experience 2017 panel in Sao Paulo, Brazil this weekend, has revealed that the primary inspirations for Sony's "Venom" movie are the "Lethal Protector" and "Planet of the Symbiotes" comic storylines of Spiderman. Needless to say, Venom is one of the most persistent and powerful enemies of Spiderman and has even come close to defeating him.

The first storyline in question, "Lethal Protector," is a six-issue comic book arc made by David Michelinie and Mark Bagley in 1993. In the said series, Spiderman and Venom have come to a truce, agreeing not to fight each other as long as Venom stops committing crimes. The two even formed an uneasy alliance against the other Venom Symbiotes named Riot, Agony, Scream, Phage, and, Lasher.

This storyline also saw Venom moving out of New York and in San Francisco, the same city which Tom Hardy, the actor chosen for "Venom," has confirmed to be the setting of the movie. The other storyline from 1995, "Planet of the Symbiotes," has a similar plot where Venom also helps his enemy Spiderman to fight an army of Venom Symbiotes.

Fans expecting Tom Holland's Spiderman to be the one present in "Venom" will get disappointed, however, as Sony Pictures and movie producer Amy Pascal has confirmed that Venom will be disconnected from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This also means that the anti-hero will not get featured in future "Avengers" or "Spiderman" movies despite his frequent entanglement with the webspinner in the comic books.

Meanwhile, the antagonist of the supervillain movie is rumored to be Carnage, who is also a symbiote who attached itself to a human more malevolent and psychotic than Venom's host person, making him more dangerous than the latter. Carnage has also had frequent run-ins with Spiderman.

For those unfamiliar, Venom is an alien symbiote who feeds on negative emotions and impulses of its host while also giving it superhuman abilities. Like a parasite, it also uses its host as a means of survival. Venom has attached itself to Eddie Brock (Hardy) and has over the years become more of an antihero than a supervillain, helping Spiderman with his enemies and other threats.

More will be revealed about the two once the movie hits the theaters on Oct. 5, 2018.
