'Walking Dead' season 6 spoilers, cast: Two characters from comics added

Merrit Wever as Dr. Denise CloydAMC

Actors Merrit Wever and Ethan Embry were announced as new cast members for "The Walking Dead" season 6 during the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con but showrunner Scott Gimple didn't reveal who they will be playing. That information has now been revealed in a report from Entertainment Weekly

Gimple told the media outlet that Wever will be playing Dr. Denise Cloyd, a surgeon who will become the chief medical officer for the Alexandria Safe Zone now that Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) had shot Pete (Corey Brill) during the season 5 finale.

Dr. Cloyd is one of the more prominent residents in Alexandria in the comic books and her appearance in season 6 goes to prove that Gimple and his team of writers are intent on bringing the show a lot closer to the comic book source material compared to previous seasons. Cloyd shared a romantic relationship with the character Heath, who is also being brought to life for season 6 by "Straight Outta Campton" actor Corey Hawkins. It is unknown if they will have that relationship in the television series.

Ethan Embry as CarterAMC

Embry, on the other hand, will be portraying a new character known as Carter. According to Gimple, Carter is a combination of different characters from the comic books which they were not able to implement on the show.

Carter's role in Alexandria has not been revealed but the EW report indicates that he may be one of the residents who will rally against Rick Grimes.

"He is an Alexandrian, and has been there the whole time, just quite busy," Gimple told EW, indicating that Carter was present when Rick murdered Pete.

Wever is prominently known for portraying the character Nurse Zoey Barkow on the show "Nurse Jackie" for which she won an Emmy award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, while Embry is known for his role in "Grace and Frankie."
