As was previously reported, the executive producer for "Wayward Pines" Chad Hodge has shot down hopes for a second season, explaining that the mini-series already had distinct beginning, middle and end and there is no novel to adapt at this point. However, that hasn't stopped others from speculating what the second season could focus on.

After all, the rest of the people involved such as producer-director M. Night Shyamalan and author Blake Crouch have confirmed on multiple occasions that they are indeed trying to come up with a story for a second season and Fox executives have also expressed interest if the duo can design a story that can carry the mini-series forward.

Deadline reported back in June that if the series would get a second season it may focus on Ben Burke (Charlie Tahan) first taking control over the town by uniting the people against the First Generation and then focusing on finding a cure for the Abbies lurking outside the town walls.

This would not only allow the studios to focus on a new cast other than the kids such as Ben and Amy (Sarah Jeffery) but it will allow the series to wrap up the plotline from the first season.

However, as cited in the previous report, it is also possible that the second mini-series would veer away from the town of Wayward Pines and focus entirely on the story of Adam Hassler (Tim Griffin).

Adam was previously Ethan Burke's (Matt DIllon) boss at the US Secret Service and was one of the residents of Wayward Pines, working together with the town's creator David Pilcher (Toby Jones). During season 1, it was revealed that Adam took a handful of explorers and decided to go out of Wayward Pines to discover what else happened to humanity.

If the second season were to focus on Adam, it may reveal more about the downfall of mankind, the true nature and mutation of the Abbies, and what eventually became of Adam and his team as they tried to survive out in the wild.
