'Wayward Pines' season 2 spoilers: trailer teases awesome cast in next season

FOX

More danger awaits the new residents of "Wayward Pines," according to the trailer for season 2.

The trailer introduces the stellar roster of cast who will portray old and new characters who will be invaded by the abbies in the latest season of the sci-fi mystery series. One of them is the new Wayward Pines resident, Dr. Theo Yedlin (Jason Patric). Theo suddenly found himself in a mysterious new town where an ongoing rebellion is taking place. Theo will be joined by his wife Rebecca (Nimrat Kaur), and he will do everything that he can to help in preventing the human race's possible extinction.

Executive producer M. Night Shyamalan teased Theo's realization when he first discovered the mysterious town in an interview with TVLine, saying that the new resident will "thrust into a civil war in a town where martial law is at work."

Theo will be joined by Oscar Award-nominee Djimon Hounsou as the historian and one of the original Wayward Pines residents, CJ Mitchum. Hounsou will be the one who knows a lot about the complicated background of the picturesque but strange town. He also knows how to connect the past and present times of Wayward Pines.

Other returning characters in "Wayward Pines" season 2 include the Academy Award nominee Terrence Howard, who will reprise his role as the dreaded Wayward Pines sheriff Arnold Pope. Carla Gugino's Kate Hewson and Toby Jones's character David Pilcher, responsible for the mysterious events in town, are also set to recur in the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, other minor characters from season 1 will be given bigger roles in the next season. Principal Megan Fisher (Hope Davis) will now spearhead the scientific research about the abbies, while First Generation Wayward Pines resident Jason Higgins (Tom Stevens) will step up to become the new sheriff in town.

The second season of "Wayward Pines" will premiere on May 25 on Fox.
