Fox Network's show "Wayward Pines" is oscillating between a third season and the lack of it. There is a storyline for the new season, alright. But whether or not it makes it to the small screen is the big question. Parent Herald reports that spoilers for the new season may disclose the fate of the human race and the Abbies.

The finale of Season 2 saw the humans subjected to cryogenic pods once more, and a baby Abbie that resembled a human being was born. The show's executive producer Blake Crouch revealed in an interview with Zap2it that the third season will offer more answers regarding the evolution of the Abbies. He went on to add, "So the idea is what are the Abbies going to become? Are they going to become something more human? Are they going to get worse?" We'll have to wait till the third season to find out.

The executive producer also confirmed that if Fox network gave the show a chance at a third round, that would be the last season for the series. "We came up with a three-season arc, so in a perfect world, if we have the chance, we would conclude 'Wayward Pines' in a third season," he added.

Will Fox network offer the show a timeslot on its schedule? TV Line noted that Fox Group's CEO Dana Walden stated that the show's future would depend on its ratings on different platforms. It appears as if the network is still weighing the possibility of the new season. Although Walden did tease fans with the fact that the storyline for the possible last season was extremely compelling, the fate of Season 3 will depend on how Season 2 performs with the rating panel.

All that fans of the show can do now is keep their fingers crossed as they await an official confirmation on the subject.
