The high flying wrestler known as Rey Mysterio will no longer be seen in the WWE. At least for now.

This comes after reports from TMZ confirmed that the former WWE heavyweight champion and fan favorite's contract had expired. Hence, the end result was both Mysterio and the WWE parting ways.

Mysterio has not been in action for quite some time and such spurred rumors on his actual status in the WWE. Despite claiming to be 100% healthy, Mysterio has been peculiarly absent from WWE shows.

It didn't take long for Mysterio to find a new home after SEScoops confirmed that Mysterio had signed a deal with the AAA and Lucha Underground where Mysterio will reportedly be charging $20,000 per appearance.

The last time fans saw Mysterio was during a match against Bad News Barrett after Wrestlemania 30. He took time out to allow his wrist to heal but unfortunately never sprung back into competitive wrestling.

Though it wasn't mentioned, this could be tied up with rumors here last month of Kalisto being given a bump. In that same article, many had speculated that Kalisto would be taking the place of Mysterio, who at that time was indisposed for undisclosed reasons.

Despite his small frame, Mysterio will always be a character that many will remember. Aside from defying the odds and being a WWE heavyweight champion, Mysterio is also best remembered from the 2006 Royal Rumble where he emerged the victor.

But the price to pay was evident. Mysterio suffered from injuries which forced him to sit out major shows, all stemming from his high-flying performance and of course clash with bigger wrestlers in the WWE.

Could we see Mysterio return one day in the WWE? If the trend continues, such isn't a remote possibility. But one thing is for sure, Mysterio is expected to be among the future nominees in the WWE Hall of Fame.
