'X-Files': new revival mini-series trailer has arrived

X-Files returnsFOX

The very first teaser trailer for the "X-Files" six-episode revival mini-series has been released. The very short 15-second video gives fans their first look at David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson returning as FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, respectively.

The trailer goes by very quickly and it doesn't reveal anything about the new series' story. There is a quick shot of what appears to be a plane crash and two dead bodies being dragged by an unidentified person. A poster with the words "I Want to Believe" is shown before a person walks right over it.

Fans are then given a very quick glimpse of Mulder and Scully before the trailer ends with the logo and a short tease of the iconic theme song.

It isn't clear at this point if the series will tackle the "mytharc" stories from the television series or if it will follow the "monster of the week" format since there are only six episodes this time around. It isn't even revealed how the FBI got Mulder and Scully back together after the events in season 9 and in the 2008 film "X-Files: I Want to Believe."

According to a report from Collider, Mulder and Scully aren't the only familiar faces coming back. The report cites that Mitch Pileggi will return to portray Walter Skinner while William B. Davis is set to reprise his role as The Smoking Man, although Fox has yet to explain how the latter survived after getting blown by a rocket in the series' finale.

The report from Collider also confirms that there will be new characters to be played by Annet Mehendru and Joel McHale. The site reports that McHale's character, Tad O'Malley, is touted to be a talk show host who may become an unlikely ally for Mulder. Mehendru will play Sveta, a victim of alien abduction.

"The X-Files" revival mini-series is set to premiere on Jan. 24, 2016.
