Microsoft is offering a heaping helping of nostalgia for Xbox One owners this holiday season coming courtesy of their newest batch of backward compatible games.

Sixteen new games have been added to the collection of backward compatible titles, and they span a wide range of genres.

Among some of the more well-known additions introduced this month are "Halo: Reach" and "Fable III."

Going on in alphabetical order, the rest of the games are "Braid," "Deus Ex: Human Revolution," "Doritos Crash Course," "Hydro Thunder," "Iron Brigade," "Kane & Lynch 2," "Motocross Madness," "Ms. Pac Man," "Peggle," "Portal: Still Alive," "Spelunky," "Splosion Man," "Ticket to Ride" and "Zuma's Revenge."

Noticeably absent from the list of newly announced backward compatible titles are some of the games that fans have been clamoring for ever since the feature first became part of the Xbox One.

Fans have been waiting for games such as "Red Dead Redemption" and earlier entries in the "Grand Theft Auto" series to be added to the collection of backward compatible titles, and it appears they may have to wait for at least a little while longer.

The good news is that those eagerly anticipated titles could still be added soon, since Microsoft will be introducing more backward compatible games every month, according to Eurogamer.

Fans can only hope that 2016 will finally be the time when some of their favorite games for the Xbox 360 will also become playable on the Xbox One.

With the 16 new games added, that takes the total number of backward compatible titles for the Xbox One up to 120.

It's unclear how many games Microsoft will be releasing each month since the initial batch contained 104 titles, Gamespot reported.

Xbox One owners should get a better idea on how many games they can expect to be made backward compatible each month once the January list is announced.

There's no word yet on when January's batch of backward compatible games for the Xbox One will be announced.
