Xiaomi Mi 5 release date, specs and features: Leaked render shows glass and curved back
The Xiaomi Mi 5 is once again the subject of a new leak in the form of a supposed render of the flagship. The render shows only the rear of the handset, which appears to be made of glass. It also looks like it is curved on the edges, a design that resembles that of the newly-released Galaxy Note 5 from Samsung.
The purported Xiaomi flagship also sports a metal frame. On the bottom, there are two loudspeaker grills sandwiching a port that is presumably a reversible USB Type-C connector. Unfortunately, these are already the biggest takeaways from the image.
Speculators are in disagreement as to what will power up the Xiaomi Mi 5. Some say the Chinese company is waiting for the still-unreleased Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor while other rumors claim the tech firm will go for a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor instead. The latter is what a number of flagships currently have. It will allegedly be assisted by 3 GB of RAM but Phone Arena believes that Xiaomi has the resources to put in 4 GB, considering that the Mi Note Pro's RAM already boasts that capacity. It is expected to have 32 GB of storage space as well.
As for the rest of the specs, there's word that the the Xiaomi Mi 5 will have a 5.2-inch Quad HD display, a 16-megapixel shooter on the back, and a 6-megapixel selfie snapper on its front.
Meanwhile, an alleged teaser for the smartphone was recently leaked. This teaser is dominated by the number 5 with the words "Are you ready" under it. Further down is what appears to be fingerprint, which is believed to be hinting at the fingerprint scanner to be integrated into the device.
There's no word as to when the Xiaomi Mi 5 will see the light of day. It's been more than a year since its predecessor was released.
