China-based tech manufacturer Xiaomi has just started a new product line, announcing the new Mi Notebook Air, and some observers are already comparing it against the Air lineup from Apple.

Much like the MacBook Air, the new Mi Notebook Air also comes as a two-variant laptop lineup, available as a base model with 12.5-inch dimension, and a top-tier 13.3-inch version.

The premium variant has an Intel Core i5 processor and as much as 256GB SSD storage, and an Nvidia GeForce 940MX graphics card, and the chipset is paired with 8GB of DDR4 RAM. According to observers, though the new Mi Notebook Air has top-tier specs and slim design much like some of the flagship offerings currently out in the market, the new Xiaomi addition may be a strong contender, given that the initial unveiling placed the price tag of the premium version to just $750.

Meanwhile, the base model with 12.5-inch dimension is slimmer than the premium variant. However, although it looks to be the more portable of the two, it also houses step-down specs. The version only carries an Intel Core M3 processor paired with 4GB of RAM. The onboard storage is 128GB of SSD. The price tag for the base model places it around $520.

Aside from Xiaomi, another tech manufacturer also wants to take the MacBook Air head-on. Shortly after Xiaomi's announcement, Lenovo has also unveiled a new laptop lineup, and predictably, named it the Air 13 Pro.

Although there are no confirmed leaks, rumors of a first-ever Xiaomi laptop have been circulating online, although it still comes as a surprise for some fans. Xiaomi chose to co-launch the new Mi Notebook Air with another smartphone addition, the Redmi Pro, at an event just last week.
