Former One Direction member Zayn Malik and EDM DJ Calvin Harris got into a Twitter fight over Taylor Swift. The social media war began when Malik retweeted a post from Twitter user @FemaleTexts on Monday which appeared to criticize Swift's refusal to stream her music for free.

The post, which has since been deleted, compared Swift's refusal to stream her music for free with a quote from Miley Cyrus, saying that she didn't care about money.

"The difference is astounding," wrote the poster.

Harris rushed to defend his girlfriend and tweeted both at the original poster and Malik, writing, "@FemaleTexts @zaynmalik You've made your money? Cool…[expletive] the 99% of musicians who depend on these services to survive, right?"

The EDM DJ went on, "If you don't get what it means when a successful artist uses their celebrity to benefit every other musician and songwriter in the industry…then stay out of my mentions."

Harris also said that those criticizing Swift did not understand why she refused to stream her music for free. The "Shake if Off" singer made headlines when she pulled her music off Spotify last year, saying that the streaming service did not fairly compensate artists.

Malik hit back at the Harris and said that he has made a fool of himself for jumping to conclusions, adding that his post was a general statement.

"@CalvinHarris you clearly did not understand what I just said either," the former One Direction member wrote before adding that Harris should calm himself "before them dentures fall out."

Harris then tried to restore peace as he replied, "All good, it was the quote not you personally mate," before adding "lol" to Malik's dentures comment.

Malik concluded that he wrote his own music, too, to which Harris replied, "Best of luck, genuinely. You've got a great voice."

Malik's Twitter spat with Harris isn't his only social media activity that made headlines. This week, he responded to a Twitter poll favoring the single "Worth It" by Fifth Harmony over "Black Magic" by Little Mix. Fans immediately took this as a dig at Little Mix member Perrie Edwards, who is Malik's ex-fiancee. The former boy band member called it quits with Edwards last month, allegedly through a text message. One fan wrote, "come on Zayn you were engaged to this woman" while others criticized his post as "immature."
